William “Bill” Stokes Jr. ,age 102 , of Grove City, Ohio passed away on July 17, 2024, with family at his side. He was a member of Grace of God Lutheran Church. Bill served his country in the United State Army during WW II. He worked at the Pentagon as a radio operator using teletype to communicate directly with President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s driver. Bill went on to serve in the Pacific Theater of Leyte, Philippines. He retired from The Columbus Dispatch after 40 years. Bill was a baseball enthusiast and a dedicated fan of the Columbus Clippers. He also enjoyed his daily swims at the YMCA Urbancrest.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Hester Stokes. He is survived by his sons, Phillip Stokes and Robert (Debbie) Stokes; daughter Karen (Steven) Graves; grandson Michael Stokes and grand-daughter Katrina Baggs along with nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 South High St., Columbus, oh., 43207 beginning at 11:00 am until time of funeral service at 1:00 pm with Steven Graves officiating.
