Roger was a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend and coach. He loved his family, friends, and sports.  Roger never met a stranger and made friends easily.   He especially loved his friends from South High School.

Ruby was the love of his life and constant.  They did everything together.  He loved  his daughters and was so proud of their accomplishments.  Roger and Ruby especially liked going to watch their grandsons play sports.  His grandsons were his life, and he was so proud of their academic and sport achievements.

Roger's love of sports began at age 7 at Southside Settlement House.  He continually played sports through South High School.    He loved all sports but especially basketball and baseball.  He was honored with the Agonis Award for his athletics then attended The Ohio State University to earn a degree in Physical Education/Health. He taught at Everitt Junior High in Columbus City Schools. Roger was an advocate of Physical Education and created videos to help others learn how to run their programs.   At Central High School he counseled students and coached basketball with Al Bowen.  He excelled at keeping students in school and becoming successful graduates. He coached for many years with Dick Meloy at Brookhaven High School then taking over as head coach.  Some honors were  the Hall of Fame for Basketball and Coaching,  "Teacher of the Year" at both Central and Eastmoor, and "Who's Who in Education".. Roger was always a coach and loved helping young people hone their skills. He believed in working hard and making a difference.

Roger played fast pitch softball for many years. He was a pitcher and played with various teams, traveling during the summer. He worked security, traveled, watched all sports especially the Buckeyes and spent time with his family.   Roger will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love of life, and spending time with family, friends and former students.
