Ralph Owen Dearth, 74, of Baltimore, died June 23, 2012 after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 20, 1937 in Prattsville, Vinton County, he was the son of Harry Forrest Dearth and Bernice Coe Dearth. Graduate of McArthur High School. Retired from Roadway Express, where he earned numerous safety awards, including the Million Mile award. Member of Teamsters Local 413. An Army veteran, he served in the Marksmanship Unit of the Service Rifle Team. In 1965, he earned the Distinguished Rifleman award, the highest honor for a military shooter. In 1966, he set a national record for target shooting with a high-powered rifle and became a co-holder of a reserve award. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and gardening. He was a member of the Fairfield Fish and Game Club and was a life member of the National Rifle Association. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by infant sisters, Barbara Dee and Betty Rouge. Survived by his wife of 47 years, Karen; daughters, Jennifer, of Butler, PA and Jill (Brian) Drinkwater, of Bolton Valley, VT; grandchildren, Emmaline, Aaron, and Layla; brothers, Donald, of San Francisco, CA, George Coe (Donna), of New Marshfield, Forrest Neil (Joan), of Marietta, Kenneth Dale (Waneta), of Ostrander, William Clifton (Helen), of Galloway, sisters, Marilyn Jean, of Prattsville, Juanita Ruth, of Columbus, Margaret Ilene, of Hilliard, and Bernice Ann (Richard), of Columbus; numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation Sunday from 1-4 p.m., at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Columbus OH 43207. Funeral Service Monday 11 a.m. at Good Shepherd Community Church, 210 Obetz Rd., Columbus, OH., 43207, Pastor Gary Kirk officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Central Ohio, 2225 Citygate Dr. #E, Columbus, OH 43219 or to Fairhope Hospice and Palliative Care Inc., 282 Sells Road, Lancaster, OH 43130.
