Myrtle Werner

September 25, 1930 — March 13, 2012

Myrtle Faye Werner, age 81, of Columbus, born September 25, 1930 died March 13, 2012 at home surrounded by her family after an 8 year battle with Alzheimer's. Myrtle was born in the mountains of eastern Kentucky in Elliott County. At the age of 16 she moved to Lexington and graduated from Henry Clay High School Class of 1948. Myrtle then attended Erlanger Hospital Nursing School in Chattanooga, TN., where she met her husband, Donald E. Werner Jr. and they moved to Columbus in 1951. Myrtle worked as a cosmetologist in a salon in her home. She was an avid bowler and bowled a 298 game in 1963. In both 1964 and 1965 she bowled in the All Star Tournament "World Series of Bowling". Myrtle and Don were members of St. Paul's Lutheran Church for over 40 years. They loved to travel in their RV visiting all 48 continental states, plus Alaska, Canada, and Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Linnie Fyffe and brother, Adrian Fyffe. Myrtle is survived by her husband of 62 years, Donald E. Werner Jr.; sons, Tom (Sherry) Werner, Tim (Dawn) Werner , and Aaron (Candy) Werner all of Columbus; 5 grandchildren, Michael, Nick, Grant, Christy, and Timothy; and 4 great-grandchildren; brothers, Julian, Eugene (Betty), and Eulas (Jennie) Fyffe all of Lexington. The family wishes to thank Harbor Light Hospice for the wonderful care provided to Myrtle. Visitation Friday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High Street. Service Saturday 10 a.m. (with visitation beginning at 9 a.m until time of service) at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 322 E. Stewart Ave., (German Village) Columbus OH 43206., Pastor Snowden Sims officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Myrtle's name be directed to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Stained Glass Building Fund.
