Melvin Payne

Melvin R. Payne, age 80, passed away at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware on May 25, 2014. Preceded in death by parents, Hazel and Vernon, brother Wesley, and brother-in-law, Ron Kennedy. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Lou Mellon Payne and two sons, Melvin (Cindy) of Galena, and Michael (Jennifer) of Lebanon. Four wonderful grandchildren; Amy, Joseph, Christopher, and Stephen; Also surviving are 2 sisters, Margaret (Bob) Inman of Columbus, and Phyllis Kennedy of Anderson, S.C. Many special nieces, nephews, and cousins. Member of Optimist Glee Club YMCA South side branch in 1948. Graduated from South High in 1952. He worked at the Research Lab at O.S.U. and retired as a bus driver for Columbus City Schools. He loved family get-togethers, gardening, and playing his guitar and banjo. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed. Family will receive friends on Friday May 30, 2014 beginning at 10:30 a.m. with service to follow at 12 noon at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S.
