Marilyn Jean Ley, age 97, passed away on February 3, 2024. She was born in Newcomerstown, the oldest of 3 children. A clotheshorse at heart, she left home at 18 for New York City and started a lifelong career in fashion. After several years in New York, she returned to Ohio and settled in Columbus where she worked in sales at The Union, a department store downtown, she was an assistant buyer at Montaldo’s, a woman’s retailer in Upper Arlington, and returned to sales at Jacobson’s a department store in City Center Mall.
She was an avid reader and made a point to stay on top of current events. She loved traveling; visiting Europe, the western US and frequently flew to Florida to visit dear friends. She loved a good restaurant and would fight you for the bill. She was fiercely independent and could swear a blue streak. She cared deeply for her family. After a lifetime away, she’ll return home to Newcomerstown to rest beside her parents.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Mildred Ley; brothers, Gordon Ley and Keith Ley. She is survived by her nieces, Erin Ley (Justin Hemminger), Susan Robinson (Mike), nephew, Christopher Ley (Jill Wesley) sisters-in-law, Pamela Ley and Phyllis Ley, two great-nephews and one great-niece.
