Katharina Briggs

Katharina “Katy” Briggs, age 87, of Columbus passed away on November 16, 2023, with her family at her side. 

Katy was born July 6th, 1936 in Rittersdorf, Germany. She met the love of her life, TSgt Norman E. Briggs, while working at the NCO club on Bitburg Air Force Base. Katy and Norman married in 1960, had their two sons (Norm and Bobby) while stationed in Germany and their only daughter (Linda) while stationed in France. After returning stateside in 1973, the family settled in Columbus, OH where Katy has lived for the last 50 years. 

Katy will be remembered by friends and family as an absolute firecracker. She was funny and sassy, loving and sweet. She loved bowling, bingo, crochet, OSU, the Bengals, and beating everyone at card games. Most of all, she loved her family. Katy was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. 

Katy is preceded in death by her husband, Norman E. Briggs; son, Robert “Bobby” G. Briggs; her parents, Johann and Lucia Hoffmann; her siblings Marga and Herbert.  She is survived by her son, Norm H. Briggs; daughter, Linda Fagerholm; grandchildren Beverly (Kevin) Lynn Caldwell; Jeffrey (Adriana) Briggs; Kacie (Joey) Burkitt; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Julian and Natalie Briggs, James and Rebecca Caldwell and Joseph Burkitt; sister, Cecillia Hacken and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Briggs Evans. 

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, beginning at 3:00 pm until time of service at 6:00 pm at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Columbus, OH. 43207.  A private interment will be held at a later date at Franklin Hills Memory Gardens.
