Geoffrey "Geoff" Brown

May 13, 1946 — February 13, 2025

Grove City

Geoffrey Brown's life ended by cancer on Feb.13, 2025. He is predeceased by his parents Harold and Margurite, and oldest brother Anthony and sister-in-law Polly. He is survived by brother Chad (and Jean) of Germantown, TN.; by his brothers' children, Gayle, Matt, and Randy; and their children and families, all located in Florida. In recent years Anthony’s grandson Tony (and Julie) had been located in Columbus for a period, during which time Geoff came to see Tony as a good friend as well as family.

Geoff is also survived by his wife Christine Resch who shared some 30 years of love, happiness, learning, and living. Their relationship was the most joyful, meaningful, and the richest aspect of each of their lives. Nothing was more important to them than nurturing it and each other.

Geoff took pleasure in his friendships with those he felt closest to, both humans and pets. Geoff would thank them all for good times they shared and challenges they survived, and certainly for their caring about him (and Chris) through his final days. To name just a few of the many: Chuck Zalac, Erik Morrice, Jim Robison, Roy Jewett, Deb Baird, Nancy Noble, David Duke, SmallCat, Rudy, Prancer, Daisy Dog, and Pym.

After graduating from the University of Miami (FL), Geoff’s expectations of a life in academia had to be altered. During the Vietnam war, Geoff sought and was granted legal deferment from military service. Status as a Conscientious Objector compelled him to provide alternate service; Geoff chose work at Dayton State Psychiatric Hospital for his, leading to his life-long career in social services and a master’s degree in social work. He worked until his retirement doing case management, supervision, and program development, and as a hearing officer, at Fairfield and Franklin County human services agencies or the Ohio Dept. of Job and Family Services, always proud to be a civil servant.

Geoff read constantly - widely and deeply - to learn, to understand, to participate responsibly in our world. He couldn’t be happier than when he was reading, sitting on the deck in the woods of Hideaway Hills or Grove City, or beside the Gulf of Mexico near Venice, FL, with his coffee or wine, a beloved cat or dog nearby, maybe some Tom Petty or the Who or old blues or a Mozart opera playing in the background, and with Chris beside him. That is Geoff, forever.

All the skilled, caring and kind health professionals of Columbus Oncology and Hematology Associates are owed many warm thanks for caring for Geoff through multiple cancers and conditions; Geoff felt much gratitude for their efforts and their always-considerate care, as does Chris. Also, we thank the good people at Ohio's Hospice and at Monterey Care Center who provided care and support in the final days of Geoff's life.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 1 – 3 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 South High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43207. To sign Geoff’s online guestbook and leave a condolence for his family please visit www.graumlichfuneral.com
