Elman Moore, age 86, went to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 20, 2009, with his loving "bride" of over 65 years, Loretta, by his side, along with other family members. Born October 25, 1922, in Ladocea, Ky., he was raised on a farm in the hills of eastern Kentucky. Orphaned at the age of 12, Elman learned to value the importance of an education and went on to be the salutatorian of the Blaine High School graduating class of May, 1941. He played as guard on his high school basketball team, maintained a passion for basketball throughout his life, and he especially enjoyed watching the Ohio State Buckeyes play. Elman had a lifelong love of poetry, and he committed many poems to memory. He proudly served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and during the Korean Conflict. He was a longtime member of VFW Post # 3424 and American Legion #144.
A long-time resident of the southside of Columbus, he worked many years for Seagraves Co. He enjoyed carpentry and was a "handy man." Elman was an outdoorsman all of his life and was never happier than when he was in the woods, hunting for squirrels or rabbits. He married Loretta Diamond on March 1,1944. Elman trusted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized into the fellowship of Parsons Baptist Church in 1966. While he will be greatly missed by family and friends, we are comforted by knowing that he now lives where "God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away." (Revelation 21:4).
Elman is survived by his wife Loretta Diamond Moore, by two daughters and sons-in-law Janis & Lloyd Lambert of Columbus; Teresa & William Baer of Paraguay, a son and daughter-in-law Thomas & Cindy Moore of Powell, 7 precious grandchildren, 7 sweet great-grandchildren, a special nephew and wife (Donald & Sue Moore), a loving sister-in-law Bonnie Streeter, and a host of other relatives, friends, and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his parents William Thomas & Amanda Moore, and by his brothers Mont & Henry Lee Moore. Family will receive friends at Graumlich Funeral Home 1351S. High St. Tuesday from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. His funeral service will be held Wednesday 10 a.m. at Parsons Baptist Church. Interment with military honors to follow at Obetz Cemetery.
