Clara Ellis

Clara Virginia Ellis, age 92, of Columbus, passed away on February 11, 2011. Clara was born December 29, 1918 in Clinton County, Ohio to Louise "LuLu" ( Rhoades) Whitehead and Charles Washington Whitehead. Clara was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother. Flowers, plants, gardening and caring for her dogs gave her many hours of enjoyment. Traits of a strong work ethic, honesty, frugality, a sense of humor and her ingenious ability to cleverly fix anything (The original "Handy Mam"), helped to define Clara as a person. Her colorful storytelling, sprinkled with her own special vocabulary will be fondly cherished by her family, as will the dozens of puzzles she completed and permanently hung. She will be lovingly remembered by all who loved her. Preceded in death by her parents, her sisters, Marjorie Firman and Elizabeth Curtis, husband Harold K. Ellis, and son Leroy Ellis. Survived by sons Paul ( Bobbi) Ellis of Lexington, NC, Tom ( Shirley Mead) Ellis of Columbus, OH, Roger ( Charlane) Ellis of North Canton, OH and daughter Jackie (Glenn) Hursey of Pataskala, OH and daughter in law, Kay Ellis of Obetz, OH . Grandchildren, Scott (Jamie) Ellis, Jeff (Lynne) Ellis, Tom Ellis, Ricky Ellis, Sean Ellis, Jennifer (Troy) Gantz, Forest Clint Hursey, Jodi Ellis, Rachele ( Bill) Freshkorn, Kristen Eckel, Eric ( Jennelle) Ellis and Ryan ( Jennifer) Ellis. Great grandchildren, Cody Ellis, Travis Ellis, Kelly Linek, Hayden Ellis, Jacob Ellis, Andrew, Owen, Lauren, Leland and Madeleine Gantz, Shane and Kayleigh Teas, Colin and Ashley Freshkorn, David, Seth and Katie Eckels, Emma, Rowan and Audrey Claire Ellis and 6 great-great grandchildren. Family will receive friends Monday beginning at 10 a.m. with service to follow at 12 noon at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Rev. Mary Sandberg will officiating.
