Catherine Kirkman

April 18, 1919 — December 2, 2008

Catherine C. Kirkman, born April 18, 1919, died December 2, 2008 at Sunrise of Bexley. She passed on after a long and debilitating struggle with the most horrible disease, Alzheimer's. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, William A. Kirkman (1975) and is survived by her loving family, including two daughters, Konnie (Raymond) Gaib of Lancaster and Kathryn (Larry) Lane of Bexley, two grandsons, Wayne Gaib and Scott (Ericka) Gaib, and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her devoted cat, Cookie. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in social work from The Ohio State University in 1941 and worked as a social worker during World War II in the Baltimore, Maryland area. Catherine was retired from the Columbus Metropolitan Library System. During her last several years with the library, she opened the new Reynoldsburg Branch and served as Head Librarian. She also served several years as a board member of the Friends of the Bexley Library. We extend a special thanks to the staff and, most of all, the care-givers at Sunrise of Bexley. Family will receive friends Monday from 12 noon until time of funeral service at 1 p.m., at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., Pastor Dwayne Shugert officiating. Interment Glen Rest Memorial Estates. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her memory may be directed to The Alzheimer's Association of Central Ohio or Cat Welfare.
