Boen Hallum

October 26, 1918 — December 8, 2009

Boen R. Hallum, age 91, of Columbus, OH passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at his daughter's home in Lawton, OK with his daughter, son-in-law and grandson at his side. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Lucy Hallum, his loving wife Hettie, sisters, Oma Rae Self and Elsie Kovelda, and brother, Lloyd Hallum. He is survived by sister, Bertha Stewart and daughter Priscilla Hawking (Jeff), of Lawton, OK; daughter Hope Huber (Jim), of New Albany, OH; son Roger Hallum (Pam), of Columbus, OH; grandchildren Mark Hawking (Kathleen), Tiffany Hawking Lusht (Alex), Hope Hallum Davis (Shawn), Douglas Hawking (Anne), Kim Saverno (Don), Philip Hawking, Patrick Patterson, Sean Hawking, Jessica Hallum, Walter Hallum, and Samuel Boen Hallum; great-grandchildren Summer Hawking, Lilian Hawking, Jade Davis, Gunnar Davis; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Hallum was born on October 26, 1918 in Haileyville, OK. He grew up in Oklahoma and was a graduate of Oklahoma Baptist University and the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as a Southern Baptist pastor in Mannsville, Fox, and Nicoma Park, OK and also in Columbus, OH. He retired as an English teacher from the Circleville City Schools. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groveport, OH. Mr. Hallum was a kind, gentle man. He loved spending time with his family. He sang often and composed a number of songs. He authored several books including The Talking Tree, Who is There to Mourn for Logan? and The Oklahoma Kid. He enjoyed traveling, gardening and entertaining. Family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the GRAUMLICH AND SON FUNERAL HOME, 1351 South High Street, Columbus, OH where the funeral will be held on Monday, December 14, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Dr. Gregory Cooper will officiate. Burial to follow in Obetz Cemetery, Obetz, OH. Those who wish may contribute to the American Heart Association in Mr. Hallum's memory.
