Betty Grove

On Saturday, November 5, 2022, Betty Grove went home to be with her Lord. She was 88 years old. Born to Ethel and Lawrence Wicker in Waverly, Ohio and raised in Portsmouth Ohio. She moved to Columbus as a teen where she met and married Ronald A Grove, her husband of 52 years.

Betty was a lifelong attendee and member of the Little Angel Old Regular Baptist Church. Betty was a loving mother/ grandmother to 5 children, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was a mama bear. Our friends and neighborhood children knew that if they needed a place to stay or a meal, our home was always open. She devoted her life to caring for her family. Even as adults she made sure we were safe and fed, planning meals for us up to the last day of her life. As she raised her family, she was a stay-at-home mom for the most part, but worked to earn extra money at the Lazarus Annex at Christmas time in the gift wrap department, My best memories were meeting her for lunch at Woolworths and being treated to a gingerbread cookie from the Lazarus food pantry. Betty was also a talented cake decorator, making beautiful wedding cakes for too many to mention. Each one a better work of art than the last.

Betty is survived by her son, Walter A. Grove, Daughter Cheryl M. (Thomas R.) Powell, Son Ronald D. (Mary Kay) Grove. Grandchildren, Jeremy Grove, Michael Grove, Melanie Sprankle, Robert Grove, Heather Rodgers, Allyssa Rodgers, Stephanie Grove, Adam Grove (Willa Rose), and Jennifer (Abraham) King. Betty is survived by her sister Jewell (Les) Carpenter and many nieces, nephews, friends, and Church members. Betty is preceded in death by her husband Ronald A. Grove, son Stephen C. Grove, daughter Judy L. Betts and grandson Stephen M. Grove.

Family will receive friends, Wednesday November 9, 2022, from 4 – 7 p.m. at GRAUMLICH FUNERAL HOME, 1351 S. High St., where service will be held Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 10 a.m., Pastor Danny Carty officiating. Interment to follow at Obetz Cemetery.
